Hallwards Ted Talk

Throughout the Ted Talk Hallward makes many claims, she claims that we do not talk about certain things because we are ashamed of them. These feelings that we keep inside about death, sexuality and many other thoughts that go though many peoples minds effect people very seriously. Hallward proceeds to explain that everyone who keeps these feeling and thoughts inside feels shame and that leads to so many other things. “Shame is the feeling that there’s something about me that is bad and if you knew it, you really wouldn’t love me anymore, you wouldn’t want to be with me anymore. And it’s possibly the most painful feeling that there is.” Hallward insists that everyone feels shame and that it one of the worst feelings one can battle on their own. Many thoughts that go through someone’s mind are very personal, this can make it really hard for someone to express what they are thinking and or feelings. Hallward further explains that being in the shameful closed off, state of mind is very troublesome and lonely. “But the thing about being in a closet is you can see that it is very dark in there.  And in that darkness you can’t see very clearly. You don’t get a very good perspective–only your experiences–and you’re also alone in the dark.” Using the closet analogy Hallward makes it easier for viewers to relate. This feelings of Linley darkness about your deepest most personal thoughts can make some one very venerable.
