Throughout different subjects of my future college career here at UNE I will be partaking in many sophisticated writing assignments. English 110 has provided me with the tools and experiences I will need to be able to conquer these assignments. Already in just my first semester at college I have used different tools I have learned to better my writing. I have always struggled with grammar and spelling. I believe this will always be something I struggle with but over the past couple of months my grammar skills have improved thanks to the different grammar lessons and the different lectures covered in class. For example in my self appraisal paper I had written for my Interprofessional Health Care First Year Experience class I used my knowledge of commas throughout the entire paper to better my writing. This knowledge and basic skill had improved the quality of my paper and helped me better my grade. I look forward to my future writing assignments where I can also take advantage of and better my writing skills.
Self Appraisal
I am a 2017 Most School Spirited superlative winner, a former lacrosse captain and two time Mid-Watchusett league lacrosse all-star. I am a former participant in best buddies and national art honor society member. I am a Hannafords supermarket produce associate. I enjoy fishing with my dad, reading and hanging out with friends and family. I love summer, warm weather and bright colors. I love beach trips and vacations to my grandparents lake house in Vermont. I love all different types of music and listening to comedy stations. I care about animals, my friends and family members. I am a freshamn at University Of New England where I am majoring in health and wellness and occupational studies.
Throughout the class so far we have learned differ things about ourselves. For instance we took a learning style test. This is very interesting to me because I have always considered myself to be a mixture of the different types of learning (auditory, visual, and tactile) but I always thought that I was more of an auditory learner. I have found that I learn best with an interactive environment, a place where I can ask questions and have a discussion about the topic I am learning while listening to the instructed. I also have always benefited from visual aids and graphs to help further my understanding in a more physical manner. I have also always succeeded when I am given real world examples that will help better my understanding by relating the learned topic to my life or something that I already have previous knowledge of. I benefit from listening and visualizing a topic or directions then see it done or explained through a picture or diagram and then doing it on my own. After taking my learning style quiz I learned that I am 30% Auditory, 40% Visual and 30% tactical. I was not surprised by my findings but now it is easier for me to express how I learn based on my variety of results.
Another test we took in class was a personality test. The sixteen question assessment told me that I am a protagonist personality (ENFJ-T). This means that I am a natural passionate leader, who is genuine and caring. This makes a lot of sense to me based on the leader ship role of captain which I have been to different teams. I have always been one to stand up for my friends and family when needed. I am not none to start fights or arguments but to step up when needed. I am a quick problem solver who takes many people points of views into consideration. I have been told my teammate that I was one of the most passionate players on the team who cared about the team and the players without being a cruel leader. I have always enjoyed being a leader. I am a very genuine persona and I have been told that many times by different people. I care about what I say and how it effects people while being honest and kind. The test results further explain that I am tolerant, reliable, charismatic, altruistic and a natural leader. Tough these are good qualities the test explains that I have weaknesses such as being overly idealistic, too selfless, too sensitive, fluctuating self esteem and I struggle to make tough decisions. Though I do have self esteem issues I remain confidents in myself always. I think that I may care what other people think too much bout certain things and that is why I struggle to make tough decisions cause I wasn’t everyone to be happy. I can see how this could make me seem too selfless and too sensitive.
Another test we took was the emotional intelligence test. I got a score of 62 out of 75. I am not surprised by m y test score because I have always been able to read people emotions and sympathize with someone who is going through something. I think this is what makes me a good friend, a companionate person and a good leader. I have always been told by my parents and my grandparents that I am one of the most empathic people they have ever met. This means a lot to me I like being a good listener and being considered to have helpful opinion. I scored a 15 out of 15 on the empathy questions on the test. I think this shows how much a genuine person I am. I also scored a 14 out of 15 on the social skills questions. This does not surprise me very much either because I have always successfully been able to pic up social cues and social norms and compare my social interactions with others to understand what is appropriate. I think this will help me a lot in my future occupation as a health provider.
In conclusion by the end of this semester I hope to have received grades that are all at least a C. This may be a challenge but it is surely worth it. I want to be successful in I everything I do, I will achieve this by continuing to work hard for what I want. For a long term goals throughout college, I hope to play a lot of lacrosse for the University Of New England I want to graduate with my bachelors degree in health and wellness occupational studies. After I hope to attend grad school then become a occupational therapist at a hospital. With these goals in mind and many others I hope to succeed. I hope to continue to stay the genuine natural leader that I am today. I am proud of what I have accomplished and excited to see how I can change the world.
